Location: Kanchanjunga hostel, balcony space in between room no. 212 & 213, first floor- west facing (27⁰39’03.67’’N 84⁰20’52.02”E)
Major purpose:To set an example of making natural and colorful environment on hostel balcony
Result: Historical successful story on growing of plants on controlled environment i. e, hostel balcony
#Incorporation of 12 Kg FYM in 10 cm soil layer
#Average height 6 cm seedlings of Petunia was transplanted on 20th Feb, 2011 making 17 rows (8 plants/row) in 220*75 cm2 area, 5% gap filling due to some unavoidable circumstances
#Sprinkler irrigation on each 3 days interval with regular hand weeding
#First flower as PINK on 30th March, till date 80% flowering and maximum; 9 flowers/plant , 47 cm plant height with 6 cm flower length
#No any disease but insect problem as Leaf minor infection 0.05% in total, highest at north corner plant 22% leaf infection
#The environment attracted many insects including Coleopteran, Dipteran, Homopteran, Hemipteran, Hymenopteran and Lepidopteran species during days and even to the electric bulb during night.
This practice was very much conducive for our practical assignment of Insect collection and preservation in six semester in course Economic Entomology.
